Brightwing Daybook

Acting from my own values is more important than the opinions or expectations of other people.

I'm 49 years old and currently involved with a great guy.  I recently had a hole in my heart repaired at the University of Washington Medical Center via heart catheterization.  I am feeling great for the first time in a long time!  This year (2011), I spent a long beach weekend in Moclips and a week in Boston, Massachusetts for Symantec Ghost Suite training.

I'm pagan and currently studying druidry, but I'm more spiritual than religious.  I was born in Washington State and moved back home in December 1999. I share my home with my partner Ron, two cats, two black pugs and a small parrot.  I own a time share and we are planning a trip to Hawaii.  My 30-year high school reunion was held last summer and I marked 25 years in federal civil service- wow!

I finally got my IT certifications: MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician) and CompTIA Security+.   I am thinking about enrolling in a Master's program with Pacifica Graduate Institute within a couple years.  I have a Reiki certification and I was recently certified as an Adult Literacy Tutor by TALC.  I also enjoy all my tech toys, including a Sprint Samsung Epic (with hotspot access for all my other wireless devices), a Sony Reader PRS-600, and an Acer Aspire One (8.9" display).  I got a USB cassette deck for Christmas and am transferring all my cassettes to MP3.  Next on my list is a USB turntable for my record albums.

I still hear the siren song of all types of live music.  The best concert of 2008 was Kid Rock at the Puyallup Fair.  The best concert of 2009 was Heart, although I was thrilled to see Serena Ryder and I am still listening to a lot of Canadian artists.  Aside from the great music, they have great names like the Tragically Hip and the New Pornographers.  We watched a lot of the 2010 Winter Olympics and the best 2010 concert was Bon Jovi's Circle Tour kickoff at KeyArena.  Awesome!!!

We've lost three family members recently and they'll all be missed:  my stepdad and maternal grandmother, and my guy's mother.  My mom has connected with an old family friend and they are living happily together. My sister is still separated and hasn't met anyone new.

Note:  I have four tattoos (water, earth, air and fire)  - click here for pictures of all four!  I am now toying with the idea of a back piece, perhaps the Millennium Gaia.  I highly recommend Brian (owner) or the other artists at the Tattoo Machine in Puyallup, WA.

Support Our Citizens and Our Armed Forces

1.  Stop the Backdoor Draft - Encourage Diplomacy
- Military members:  refuse to deploy under stop loss.
- National Guard:  refuse to deploy outside the US.
- Citizens and Friends:  denounce torture, support civil rights, demand the separation of church and state AND the division of power BETWEEN the branches of government.
(Nobody, including the President or Vice President is above the law.)
2.  Stop Funding Overseas Aggression - Stop the War for Oil and the War on Terror
- Meeting economic threats with military action isn't acceptable.
- Support the use of the military ONLY for international actions approved and coordinated by the United Nations.
- Renounce fear and secrecy.  Support transparency in government.
- Terrorists are criminals not soldiers.  Act accordingly.
3.  Stop the Drilling, Fraking and Nuclear!
- Drilling and fraking doesn't solve problems, it creates them.
- Clean coal is entirely theoretical and thus a myth.
- Nuclear power encourages nuclear proliferation and has no answer to storing the radioactive waste.
- Subsidize solar and wind instead.
- Our addiction to oil is killing us and destroying the natural world.
4. Stop the Transfer of Wealth to the Wealthy - Stop Poverty
- Repeal subsidies and privileges for profitable commodities and organizations.
- Tax luxuries, inheritances, large incomes, corporations and monopolies - not the common citizen.
-  No more tax cuts for the wealthy.  Simplify the system.  Save the middle class!
- Support universal health care, unions and campaign reform. That means single-payer!  Allow early enrollment in Medicare.

"Honor requires the soldier to kill or be killed, whatever his scruples.  But it is not regarded as dishonorable for the politician to swallow his misgivings and allow the young to die without protest."

"The simple fact that occupying armies, whether allied or enemy, always become unpopular hardly ever figures in official calculation."

--- I.F. Stone on the Vietnam War.

It's been nearly two and a half years since the much-missed Molly Ivins observed of media moguls that, "for some reason, they assume people will want to buy more newspapers if they have less news in them and are less useful."
